Diplomacy

IX is governed by and for its workers. The crew of each rig or station governs itself, and co-ordinates with other crews to form a union that looks out for the entire planet. That union liaises with the other worlds in the interplanetary Marz Union. Highly structured and defined by duty of care, each step in the organisation does its best to provide for and support the others.

The cellular union structure extends new negotiations with Marzion IX considerably: the merest whiff of a contractual dispute or trade disagreement will bring all the legal and intellectual resources available to the crew involved down on the interloper’s head. To save on time and effort, all contracts and reviews thereof are gone through at length at annual intervals, and rarely touched beyond legal action outside of that timeframe. Marzionites want to get on with their work – which means they nail down the details before they have a chance to get in the way.
