The human homeworld of Earth is also the original homeworld of their creations. Anthroids share the attachment to the planet – but, as they have moved to stand with humans rather than in their shadow, an awareness has grown among Anthroid circles that while many Anthroids are also Earthlings, they are not beholden to answer for mistakes that were made before they were born.

As such, a contingent of Anthroids have petitioned the Alliance for the right to establish their own homeworld, their own planet-state, in which they can exist as sentient beings separate from their creators.

The Alliance, cautiously, curiously, has agreed.

NOVA (noh-vah)

Nova is the working title for a proposed homeworld for the Anthroids – a homeworld away from home, as it were, to grant them the same holdfast as any other member species of the Alliance. Little else can be said about Nova, because it does not yet exist: unsatisfied by the idea of colonising an existing planet, the minds behind the project have set about building their own – an immense undertaking, larger and more complex than any Alliance installation before it.

In the meantime, Anthroid fabrication creches and maintenance centers may be found on every major planet in the Alliance, serving the needs of a species that cannot rely on the same mechanisms as organic life to replenish itself. 

So far, just over 10% of Nova’s total mass has been constructed at various dry docks across the Alliance. As these blocks are built, they are iterated upon – if the Anthroids are to build their own world, they reason, they should do their best to build it right. Some of the sectors under construction include:

• GI-OS is a decentralised governing body consisting of a quantum-entanglement network, which links a growing number of T/OM hulls and Anthroid management facilities across the Alliance. The intent is to construct a central relay on Nova, allowing resources and diplomatic efforts to be coordinated across vast distances with relative ease.
• ROMBUS is a concept for the rapid transit of physical matter – Anthroid citizens and freight – across the surface of Nova and beyond. Trials for the system are subsidised by their use as transport networks local to wherever they are built; most have proven intolerably inefficient by the standards of synthetic beings, but suitable for organic life (which generally needs to be moved more slowly and safely).
• VIGIA will be an archive of Anthroid and T/OM memories; a place where galactic history can endure, preserved in formats that will be immune to the entropy, the bit rot and memory leakage that inevitably cuts short even the minds of machines. No suitable format has yet been discovered – even the billion year stability of crystal nanostructures is a far cry from the goal of eternity – but research is ongoing.

While work will hasten when the pieces are assembled and the continental FABREP assemblers come online, it will still take many years before Nova will be more than scattered pieces and a series of blueprints on the negotiating table.
