Kesslerans never throw out anything that might eventually be useful to someone, somewhere. Consequently it has a stockpile of tech from the antique to the experimental – including weapon systems, drone craft, recon satellites and sundry spaceship parts, all of which are put to work as surprisingly effective ad-hoc defenses. They also have the Remoral fleet fluttering around their hull – and part of the agreement between these symbiont ships and their host is that they will be recompensed, and rewarded, if they come to its aid in times of crisis.

Kessler enforces an exclusion zone around itself whenever its arms are open and its tractor beams are in use. While the ship would technically be wide open to attack at this time, the sweeping field it generates around itself to absorb debris would ensnare or destroy anyone attempting to board – while drones, or conventional munitions, would be snagged by the beams and repurposed by Kessler and its recyclers.
