Conflict and the philosophy thereof has long been a prominent feature of Earthling cultures. Whilst Earth has neither the personnel nor the materiel to maintain a large military complex, the tactical archives are often called upon – not with a focus on winning wars, but on preventing them, and on understanding societies that do focus on conflict (such as SHADOW, and their ancestors in MOTHER).

The most notable use-of-force organisation on Earth are the Sentinels, an umbrella designation for various groups who protect Earth’s surviving environmental and cultural sites with all necessary force. Drawing as much on tradition as well as modern warfare, Sentinels play both a physical and spiritual role as custodians of Earth’s living heritage.
