What remains of Earth’s natural environment is carefully protected. Most land – especially land reclaimed from the sea – is protected wilderness, and parcels of land that are allotted for habitation or agriculture remain so under careful scrutiny. This focus on conservation has made Earth a seat of excellence in biosphere management, as well as related disciplines like genetics and geoengineering.
Although it is no longer the primary driver of Anthroid tech and the creation of artificial life is strictly controlled under Alliance law, Earth is the original homeworld of the species – and Earthling expertise in the creation and understanding of synthetic lifeforms, along with a related aptitude for cybernetics, means researchers in these fields are often drawn to Earth over, say, a more experimental venue like Viront or Kessler.
