There is pressure within the Alliance for Kessler to be dismantled so that a complete account may be made of its innards – with the goal of reverse-engineering the ship to create a fleet of craft with similar capabilities. There is even a minority on Kessler which is sympathetic to this plan, even openly on board with it – but the Geostation’s present usefulness has always outweighed the potential benefits of a full autopsy.

Kessler looks outward as well as within as it travels between the stars, and it is a hotspot for the study of kenophenomena: unexplained entities and events glimpsed in the darkness between stars. Long dismissed as mere glitches or outright hoaxes, it was Kessler that produced the first conclusive proof of kenophenomena that swayed the Alliance towards researching these odd occurrences, and Kessleran sponsorship gave the Ardent its state-of-the-art Vologium orrery.
