Introduction

Kenophenomena is a blanket term for entities and events that only occur in the intersolar void. Knotted wreaths of exotic matter that slide between the molecules of a ship’s hull. Black pearls of singularity, impossible, undetectable – save for the radiation that they don’t give off. Here be dragons.

The Ardent’s dedicated laboratory module, KENOLAB, was built to study these ephemera. To this end, it has been equipped with its own Testing/Observation Matrix (T/OM), distinct from the Ardent’s own AI unit, to supplement the state-of-the-art experimentation suite bestowed upon the division by the Ardent’s sponsors.

All of this is enclosed within the Vologium: a galactic orrery, the roving eye at the heart of the research module. All around it are a selection of smaller but no less advanced laboratories and libraries, containing all that the Ardent knows and the means to unveil all that it does not. The largest of these is the Ardent’s biomedical research facility, where wounded operatives recover and where new species are catalogued, examined and incorporated into Alliance models of intragalactic life.

While the Ardent is berthed, KENOLAB associates – marked by green accents – lend themselves to planetside research endeavours. One must have feet on the ground to build castles among the stars.

Gameplay

KENOLAB associates are the Ardent’s “science team”, with a side of “medbay/sickbay” – including paramedic duties in the field. Their gameplay pillars are Bio-Med and Engineering, with division plots leaning into weird and wondrous experiments so as to understand the unknown.

Division Priorities

  • Document kenophenomena and conduct experiments into eliminating or mitigating their effects on intersolar craft
  • Place personnel to assist Ardent ground teams in research endeavours
  • Provide emergency healthcare to Ardent specialists, particularly those with critical and novel symptoms
  • Expand the Alliance’s base of knowledge
  • Catalogue extant and extinct forms of life in non-Alliance space
  • Understand, whatever the cost.
