Items
Ardent Spacers is a game where items are used instead of character skills, with a strong in-game economy. Different items and cybernetics will give you bonuses to interacting with the gameplay mechanics or unlock different techniques for engaging with them.
Items will be far more common than at many other games, and there will be a strong emphasis on how to best manage the mission’s resources as time goes on.
Types of Items
Equipment
Equipment is anything you equip to yourself to let you do something – like Blasters, Swords, and Armour. Treat Equipment like you would Skills at other games.
Upgrades
Upgrades add on to Equipment to give them bonuses or new features. They will require Power Cell
Glossary
Item Types
Item Type | Description |
---|---|
Items | In-game items with a set purpose, allowing you to use new abilities. Divided into Equipment, Upgrades, and Expendables. |
Equipment | A subtype of items representing more permanent items, such as blasters, swords, and other equipable items. These can be upgraded. |
Upgrade | A subtype of items representing add-ons to equipment, giving them additional abilities or other improvements. |
Expendable | A subtype of items representing limited use items, such as healing serums, grenades, and batteries. These cannot be upgraded. |
Cybernetics and Knowledge
Cybernetic Type | Description |
---|---|
Cybernetic | A body modification. These are not classed as items for mechanical purposes. |
Replacement | Whole replacement limbs or organs. These must be heavily physrepped. |
Implant | Attachments to existing limbs or organs. These must be physrepped with makeup or prosthetics. |
Chip | Knowledge chips implanted in the brain, granting special abilities. These do not require physrepping, but you may opt to have a scar from the surgery. |
Knowledge | A special ability granted by professional training. The only way to obtain knowledge is at character creation. |
Resources
Resource Type | Description |
---|---|
Resource | An in-game material, represented by a card or specific game-provided physrep, that has no use on its own but may be used to create items or complete tactical objectives. Unlike lammies, these do not require physrepping beyond what the game provides. |
Money | Credits are the main form of currency on the Ardent ship. They are represented by laser cut acrylic, and are available in several denominations. Fracts are “fractions” of credits. 10 fracts make 1 credit. |
Material | Materials are needed for mission objectives and making new items and equipment in base. Volatile materials may state additional rules on their card, giving roleplay effects and storage requirements. |
Chemical | Chemical resources to use with the Chemistry mechanic to create new medicines. |
Sample | Samples are new or otherwise unrefined substances that can be converted into usable resources in the main base. They will have a basic description and roleplay effect, and can be torn open to reveal additional roleplay prompts after their activation requirement has been met. |
Power Cell | Units of power, used to power items so their abilities can be used. |
Game Lammies
Lammie Type | Description |
---|---|
Lammie | A common term in LARP, traditionally a small piece of laminated paper describing an in-game item. In this game, we use the term to describe a group of info cards with the same purpose, that look different based on what they are representing. |
Card | The standard type of Lammie. Laminated or not, cards have descriptions of what an item is and does, and any relevant information that you’d know just by holding the item. |
Tear Card | Laminated cards that have a rip-tab, with a condition of when to tear them open to reveal additional hidden information. These usually require Knowledge, Cybernetics, or Equipment to open. |
Ribbon | A printed ribbon to denote a simple in-game item that doesn’t need a long description. |
Sticker | Some in-game items that get commonly used will be represented by stickers! These will usually be frequently used items such as armour repair patches, that need physically sticking to the physrep to use (if they fall off past that point, it doesn’t matter). |
OC Items
OC Item Type | Description |
---|---|
Physrep | The physical object you bring to represent an in-game item – like LARP swords and blasters. |
Prop | A physical object that has no mechanical use other than looking nice and helping with roleplay. Any weapons without a Lammie of some kind are classed as props and cannot be used in combat. |
OC Equipment | A physical object with an OC function such as torches, mobility aids, and water bottles. |
