Human

Homo sapiens

Introduction

Humans have two arms, two legs, and a lot to prove. The person reading this is probably a human, or looks a lot like one!

Playing as a human will suit players that want to be very flexible with their kit requirements, and who want to put their own spin on the alien landscape around them –being down to earth doesn’t mean you have to stay there.

In-Game Description

Humans are an endothermic species descended from arboreal primates. Complex hierarchical structures are a common element of human societies, which they have retained after their development into a space-faring species.

Their homeworld, Earth, is isolated in galactic terms; humans did not establish meaningful contact with other intelligent lifeforms until relatively late in their history.
Humans have adapted quickly to the technology of the Alliance, and to life within a galactic community; their flexibility has been attributed to factors such as the volatile ecosphere of their planet, or the global paradigm shift towards mutual survival and co-operation which predated first contact with Alliance species’.

Humans are considered to reach physical and emotional maturity at 18, although it’s widely accepted they still have much to learn after that point. Human lifespans can vary greatly; modern medicines mean humans generally make it to around 100 and can make it as far as 150 years old without persistent mechanical assistance or genetic modifications. With such modifications that can live even longer, although actual quality of life (and remaining humanity) after that point is open to question.

Naming Conventions

Humans use a mix of contemporary and futuristic forenames, with a preference for names suggestive of space, stars, celestial bodies, and voyages. Those with closer ties to Earth are more likely to use historical names.

Name examples: Stella, Eli, Jupiter, Wander, Sol, Mona, Altair, Pallas, Aten, Andromeda, Saros, Dione, Cassio, Polaris

Roleplay Notes

You don’t need prosthetics or face paint to play as a human – but the kit requirements being simpler doesn’t mean that humans are simple! In the universe of Ardent Spacers, humans have gone from facing global extinction to expanding across the stars within a few generations. It’s a big galaxy out there, and it’s up to you how your character responds to the opportunities – and the dangers – that it presents.

Costume Brief

Requirements

None. All the players are (hopefully) humans already! If not… you’ve done a good job hiding it and clearly don’t need any tips.

Avoid

Don’t wear makeup that mimics a listed alien, or looks significantly non-human.
