It is acceptable to play music in character. Any music played in character is considered as existing “in-character” – characters can hear it and respond accordingly.
- Music must be reasonably setting-appropriate. Ardent takes place in a very broad universe so most genres will be fine (not just electronic!), but please make some effort to match your immediate circumstances and the setting. If you’re unsure what is acceptable, please get in touch.
- Music must not be famous or instantly recognisable out-of-character; this is to preserve immersion. This includes modern popular music, soundtracks, and “meme music”, although some exceptions can be made for pre-modern genres. Claiming modern music as “classical” within the Ardent setting will not be a valid excuse!
- An exception is made for any rendition of “A Space Odyssey” (originally by David Bowie), which is a known and famous song in the game setting.
- Players must follow referee direction on when music can be played, and at what volume, at all times. This is to ensure the intended experience can be preserved and the smooth practical running of the game.
Players are welcome to play their own music during time-out and in out-of-character areas, but this must be at a discreet volume at all times and must not be played at all between the hours of 11pm and 8am out of consideration for local residents adjacent to the site. Players with sensory issues are advised to speak to Game Team so reasonable accommodations can be made.
We will compile playlists on our YouTube channel over time to help set the tone of IC music.
