TASKMINDERS

Maintenance & Procurement Division

It takes a lot of little jobs to keep a ship this big running smoothly. When a reactor needs re-shielding or the FABREP network fails, it falls to the technicians in the maintenance module to get the Ardent back on course. In deep space, improvisation may be all that stands between you and explosive decompression.

They are known as the TASKMINDERS, because they mind everyone else’s business. While the Ardent’s basic amenities are automated, there are still tasks that cannot be delegated to a computer – and items that are too complex, exotic or organic to be reproduced by a FABREP system. It falls to the maintenance team to provide what the system can’t, risking life and limb to retrieve irreproducible materials from the planets that the Ardent visits.

The actual maintenance module is a combination between a factory and a trading floor: TASKMINDERS produce the small arms and essential tools used by other divisions, and present rare materials or finished parts for barter. Field teams operate in a similar fashion: whatever is essential to the mission and the survival of Ardent crew is immediately prioritised, while anything extra (in terms of labour, or leveraged expertise) can be negotiated for.

TASKMINDER operatives use yellow accents to identify themselves – it helps in times of crisis to know who the experts are at a glance.

TASKMINDER operatives are engineers first – think “warp core breaches” – and traders second. Their gameplay pillars are Engineering and Combat: their faction plots aim at solving mechanical and practical problems when it comes to the former, and procuring necessary materials from potentially hostile territories for the latter.

  • Keep the Ardent’s systems operational, using any materials to hand
  • Supplement and improve upon automated systems
  • Source exotic and organic materials that cannot be fabricated or replicated
  • Trade raw materials and finished goods with other divisions and non-Ardent entities
  • Supply operatives on the ground with mission-critical materials
  • Provide, by any means necessary.
